NUR 640 Week 7: The Therapist’s Personality
According to Carl Rogers, unconditional positive regard involves basic acceptance and support of a person, regardless of what the person says or does. The therapist gives space for the client to express whatever immediate feeling is going on—confusion, resentment, fear, anger, courage, love, or pride.

When required, clearly identify yourself as a Black Haitian American female practicing in the U.S. (Florida) and explain how cultural values, beliefs, or lived experiences influence:
Views of mental health and psychotherapy
Perceptions of dreams, grief, family roles, violence, or negative thoughts
Patient engagement and therapeutic alliance
This strengthens cultural humility and aligns with PMHNP competencies.
Use APA-style headings to organize your response. A strong structure includes:
Brief introduction addressing the topic
Clearly labeled sections answering each bullet point
Conclusion tying theory to PMHNP practice
Avoid answering questions in isolation—connect ideas fluidly.
Week 1 – PMHNP as Psychotherapist
Explain the PMHNP’s dual role (medication + psychotherapy). Discuss feasibility at each encounter by differentiating brief therapeutic interventions versus formal psychotherapy.
Week 2 – Dream Interpretation
Describe your childhood dream with emotional detail. When interpreting peers’ dreams, apply Freud (latent vs. manifest content) or Jung (archetypes, collective unconscious) using correct terminology.
Week 3 – Genogram
Explain how substance use patterns are transmitted across generations. Describe how genograms reduce denial and resistance by making patterns visible rather than accusatory.
Week 4 – Automatic Thoughts (CBT)
Discuss depression-related cognitive burden. Explain how negative thoughts may be viewed culturally (e.g., stigma, strength, faith-based coping). Propose practical strategies to improve homework adherence.
Week 5 – Family Violence
Identify cultural norms related to privacy, discipline, or authority. Discuss trauma-informed, non-threatening ways a therapist can introduce abuse concerns ethically and safely.
Week 6 – Grief
Apply Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) concepts, focusing on interpersonal deficits after long-term loss. Demonstrate how “very good questions” promote insight and emotional processing.
Cite at least two academic sources per post:
