The leadership of individuals such as Abraham Lincoln and Margaret Thatcher has been studied and discussed repeatedly. However, you may have interacted with leaders you feel demonstrated equally competent leadership without ever having a book written about their approaches.
What makes great leaders great? Every leader is different, of course, but one area of commonality is the leadership philosophy that great leaders develop and practice. A leadership philosophy is basically an attitude held by leaders that acts as a guiding principle for their behavior. While formal theories on leadership continue to evolve over time, great leaders seem to adhere to an overarching philosophy that steers their actions.

The purpose of this paper is to present a personal philosophy on the characteristics of a good leader. It includes a description of my core values, a personal mission and vision statement, analysis and a summary of CliftonStrengths Assessment, identification of two key behaviors to strength and action plan.
Personal Philosophy on the Characteristics of a Good Leader
A good leader is the one that focuses on not only personal growth but also the growth of those that he or she leads. This is achieved through constant development, motivation, coaching, mentoring, inspiring, and empowerment of the followers (Busch & Davis, 2018). He/she exhibits human respect, integrity, honesty, responsibility, trust, justice/ fairness, caring, and open communication and collaboration, just to mention a few.
Description of my Core Values
My core values are integrity and accountability. Integrity defined as the commitment to moral principles (Engelbrecht, Heine, & Mahembe, 2017). Integrity is a firm foundation to respect. On the other hand, accountability is the willingness to take responsibility for own actions. It is important for leaders to be accountable for their activities and acknowledge their strengths, weakness, successes, and failures (Busch & Davis, 2018).
